What You Are Drilling

Three spot types right now, chosen because they account for a disproportionate share of the chips most players lose.

Preflop opens, from every position

UTG through to the small blind. Same hand, different seat, different answer. This is the most common leak in poker and the easiest to fix, because it is a range you can memorize rather than a judgment call.

Facing an open

Fold, flat, three-bet, or punt it in. Harder than opening, because now the answer depends on their position as well as yours, and on what their range looks like from that seat.

C-betting the flop

You raised, you got called, and a board has arrived. Is this a c-bet spot, and if so, what sizing fits the texture? Betting every flop and checking every flop are both leaks, and telling the two situations apart is a skill.

Every scenario comes with a coaching note. Not just “AJs is in the calling range,” but actual reasoning: why the spot plays the way it does, who has the range advantage, why position changes it, and what to be thinking about when it comes up for real.

Coming next

Turn play, river play, multiway spots, and ICM tournament scenarios. This is version one and it is being added to.

The Four Feedback Tiers

Here is where the trainer differs from most of the alternatives, and it is worth explaining properly.

Real poker is not right and wrong. Plenty of the spots you face in a cash game do not have a single correct answer. They have a modal answer, the one a solver plays most often, and a defensible alternative, which is the balancing action. Folding the same hand every single time you face the same spot is a leak. So is three-betting every time. Mixing based on who is across from you is the entire game.

So the trainer scores you across four tiers rather than two.

TierWhat it means
🟢 OptimalYou played it the way a solver would, most of the time. Clean.
🟡 GoodDefensible. Not the modal play, but a reasonable real-world choice. You get credit for understanding balance, and the explanation tells you when each line is actually preferable.
🟠 Not IdealPlayable, but slightly leaking. You are not punting chips, but there is a better line available.
🔴 WrongDo not do that. Looking at you, folding AJs to a cutoff open from the button.

The Good tier took the longest to build, and it is the one that matters most. It is the difference between a tool that drills you on rote answers and one that teaches you to think like a poker player. Real, opponent-dependent mixing is what separates regulars from recreational players, and the trainer gives you credit for understanding it rather than marking you wrong for not picking the single memorized answer.

Scoring and Leak Tracking

As you play, the trainer quietly builds a profile of your decisions.

At 100 hands you get a leak preview. Something specific, along the lines of: you are folding too tight from the button.

At 1,000 hands you get the full report. Which positions cost you the most, which spot types you get wrong repeatedly, and which of your habits are actually fine so you can stop worrying about them.

It is like having someone railing you and taking notes, except the notes are accurate and the railbird is not drunk.

The reason the volume threshold exists: one wrong answer is not a leak, it is a wrong answer. A pattern across a hundred hands is a leak. Software is good at spotting the difference and humans are famously bad at it, particularly about themselves.

On your stats: we track your results so we know what teaching material to build next. We do not share them with anyone. You can reset them whenever you want. We are poker players too.

Our Methodology, Honestly

Worth being straight about what this is and is not.

The ranges are solver-based but simplified for teaching. They come from solver output, then get simplified so that the answer is learnable and the reasoning is explainable. If you live inside PioSOLVER you will occasionally find a spot you would play differently, and you may well be right for your specific opponent pool.

This is not a solver and it is not trying to be. A solver answers “what is optimal in this exact node given these exact ranges.” A trainer answers “what should you do when this comes up and you have four seconds.” Those are different questions, and the second one is the one you face at a table.

It is version one. Preflop and flop c-betting are in. Turn, river, multiway, and ICM are not yet. Being clear about that is better than implying coverage that does not exist, and if you find a spot that feels wrong, tell us. We iterate quickly.

The goal is not to replace a solver. It is to make you sharper in the spots that come up over and over again in every cash game, which is where almost all of the edge actually is.

Poker Trainer App: No Download Required

There is no app to install. The trainer runs in your browser, on your phone and on your desktop, and your progress follows your account rather than your device. Start a session on your laptop, finish it on your phone on the train.

On iPhone: open the trainer in Safari, tap the share icon, and choose Add to Home Screen. It gets an icon on your home screen and opens full-screen like an app.

On Android: open it in Chrome, tap the menu, and choose Install app or Add to Home screen. Same result.

For a poker trainer, that is genuinely better than a native app. No App Store review delay when we add new scenarios, no update to download, and no 200MB sitting on your phone doing nothing between sessions. You get the current version every time you open it.

So if you came here looking for a poker trainer app on the App Store or Google Play, this does the same job with nothing to install and nothing to update.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the poker trainer really free?

Yes. The web app is free with an academy account, and there is no paid tier. Log in or create a free account to start training.

Do I need to download an app?

No. It runs in your browser on mobile and desktop. You can add it to your home screen so it behaves like an app, but there is nothing to install.

Are the answers GTO?

They are based on solver output, simplified for teaching. The trainer tells you what a solver plays most often and why, and it gives you credit for the defensible alternative rather than marking it wrong. It is not a solver and it will not reproduce one exactly.

What spots can I practice?

Preflop opens from every position, facing an open, and c-betting the flop. Turn play, river play, multiway spots, and ICM tournament scenarios are coming.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes, and preflop is the right place for a beginner to start, because it is the most mechanical part of poker and the most expensive to get wrong.

Does it work for tournaments as well as cash games?

The preflop and c-bet fundamentals apply to both. Tournament-specific scenarios involving ICM and short stacks are on the roadmap rather than in the current version.

Do I need to sign up to use it?

Yes, a free account. Log in or create one to try it for free. The account is what lets the trainer save your progress and build your leak report.

How many hands should I play?

A hundred gets you a leak preview. A thousand gets you the full report. Fifteen minutes a day gets you to a thousand inside a couple of months, and that is a better use of fifteen minutes than watching hand history videos.
